House 2
The dwelling currently accommodates five family members—Shivajirao Patil, his son, daughter, daughter-in-law, and grandson—reflecting a multi-generational agrarian household. The house follows a linear spatial configuration, characteristic of traditional rural dwellings in the region.
A sequence of aligned door openings runs almost along the central axis of the house, visually and physically connecting spaces from the front to the rear. The spatial sequence begins with an open semi-public forecourt, which functions as an informal sitting space. This transitional zone mediates between the house and the street, encouraging social interaction and reinforcing the house’s porous relationship with its surroundings.
Moving inward, the first enclosed zone accommodates the washing area and cattle shelter, highlighting the close integration of human and animal activities within the domestic realm. The Madhya Sopa (central zone) forms the core of the house and includes the Svayampak Ghar (kitchen), Dev Ghar (prayer space), and Diwan Khana (living area). This space serves as the primary area for daily activities, rituals, and family gatherings. The innermost zone of the house is reserved for sleeping, offering greater privacy and thermal comfort.
